Pinterest and Me – A New Beginning

20120716-134635.jpg

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about Pinterest and how much I like it. I’ve decided to add something fun and new to blog about. Using a “pin” on my Pinterest board and actually blogging about it.

A little background about Pinterest and I. Several years ago my friend, Lisa, sent me a message and told me that I should check out her boards on Pinterest and join myself. I looked it up and, knowing how addicted I can become with catalogs and magazines, I decided against it. Then about a year ago my Bestie, Tracey, brought it to my attention again. Oh boy! So, I thought about it. Long and hard. It took me several months, but then I did it. I joined! Oh boy, the madness had begun. LOL!!

I used to keep all kinds of catalogs and magazines around, turn the pages so they stuck out the top, so I could go back and see what it was that I wanted, or to remember that idea. When I was younger I used to even tear out the pages to keep in idea files that would forever get lost and forgotten about. Needless to say, I am a giant out-of-sight-out-of-mind person. If I can’t see it then it will most likely ALWAYS get forgotten about. This is just how my brain works. I am very, very visual in many ways.

I see Pinterest as a huge magazine, catalog and reference site. I just love it!!! I can’t throw it away like I have done with my catalogs and magazines that come in the mail. Yes, I actually have the recycle can right next to me now when I am going through the mail. I just toss it is and don’t have any more huge piles. It is my method to the madness. That is why I came up with this. At least I will be showing how I have been using some of my pins that I have on all my crazy boards.

Please keep a look out for the future posts… “Pinterest and Me”. 🙂

A Post A Day/Week #44 ~ What Would You Tell Yourself 10 Years Ago?

If you could go back in time and have a 5 minute conversation with yourself ten years ago, what would you say?

I would have told myself to be careful with your weight.  5, 10 pounds… fine!  But!  Don’t let it get out of hand.  Care more about yourself to keep it off.  It will get harder when you are older.  Not just because you ARE older, but because of the things that come along with the changes of being older.  We slow down physically by working more, in my case it was sitting at a desk.  Having children can change hormones.  Creeping up in age our hormones change too.  There is NO getting past it.  Care now, make good choices, make and keep healthy habits. Have a regular routine.  By doing this it won’t be so hard trying to learn one later in life.  Just stay active and care about those extra pounds and just don’t ignore them.  Just do it!  🙂

In My Skin – Day 101

Weight:  183

Size:  14

Exercise: 3 Miles on the Treadmill

Today was my first day back working out since my Surgery.  I couldn’t wait!  The funniest thing was I was cracking up at myself, because I couldn’t wait.  I have NEVER liked to workout, or go to the gym.  I ended up doing 3 miles on the treadmill.  I was going to do 5 (which really I should have after the 25 pieces of salami I had), but my legs were getting pretty tight.  I felt so good when I was finished… so good!

Not much else to report for now.  :)xo

In My Skin – Day 85

Weight:  187

Size:  14

Exercise:  5.05 Miles in the Treadmill

I researched the Bodybugg yesterday and was really impressed.  I jumped in the car and drove over to 24 Hour Fitness and bought one for myself.  I started using it today and it is really cool.  Not only does it interact with what I log, it tells me my steps I’ve taken for the day, calories burned and so much more.  I am hoping that it will be a good tool for me to see where my day-to-day activity is lacking.  I am looking forward to it.

Last Wednesday was the last day I had exercised until today.  Wednesday we hiked Superstition Mountain, 3.2 miles.  The first half of the hike kicked my ass!!!  LOL!  Loved it though.  It was our 10 year Wedding Anniversary, so once we got to the top we found a shady spot next to a huge boulder, laid out a blanket, opened a bottle of wine, had some nice cold water and shared a light picnic.  It was wonderful!  🙂

In My Skin – Day 75

Weight:  186

Size:  14

Exercise:  3 miles on the treadmill

That KettleBell kicked my butt again yesterday.  I am sore today!  Mostly just my ass this time.  I went to the gym and was going to shoot for 6 miles on the treadmill, but only made it 3.  When I got off… ouch!  Now I am really sore.  I love it though.  Makes me feel like I am accomplishing something.  🙂

In My Skin – Day 74

Weight:  186

Size:  14

Exercise:  40 minutes KettleBell

Today I worked in my youngest Sons class, which I always love.  After we got home I headed upstairs and put on some comfortable clothes and headed back down to try this KettleBell again.  20 minutes of it kicked my ass last time.  The next day I was soooo sore!  So great!  Anyway, I made it though.  I modified here and there, but all-in-all that was my workout for today.

Last week… Monday and Tuesday we did a bike ride each day.  5 miles each time.  It felt really good to get outside and do something different.

Spring Break ended for us yesterday, so time to get back on track.  Not that I got too off track, but I haven’t been in the gym for a couple of weeks.

The weather here in Arizona is really warming up, so laying out by the pool is going to get pretty regular here very quick.  That means lots of swimming and tanning this winter body… as well as bringing on the martinis by the pool.  Guess I had better start working out extra hard.  LOL!  I love my cosmos by the pool!!  🙂

What do you write in a Blog???

Hmmmm… is a Blog where you talk about your struggles… your family… to bitch about something, what?

I could tell you about my struggles with myself, but I really don’t have too many.

I could tell you about my family, but where would I start and what do I say about them? Wouldn’t that just piss them off, or embarrass them?

I could bitch, but well, that would just be bitching and that would be no fun.

Have any suggestions for me?

:) xoxo

In My Skin – Day 67

Weight:  186

Size:  14

Exercise:  Outdoor Bike-riding 4 or 5 miles

I’ve been feeling great on the exercise side of life!  We just finished (my Husband, 4 Boys and I) riding to the Mall for lunch at Grimalidi’s.  After we went a little further to the Circle K to hit up the Red Box for a few movies, then headed home.  It is such a beautiful day.  It must be 80, or just under outside.  I can see the brown glow starting to take over my skin.  Love Spring time!

Yesterday, Sunday, we went to the Aloha Festival, which was fantastic.  We loved walking while enjoying the wonderful food, drinks, vendor booth and entertainment.  It was a win-win all around and I didn’t gain a pound.  Thank goodness for the walking.  🙂

The Friday before that I did 4 miles on the treadmill.

On Thursday of last week I did 3 miles.  This was the day after I did the KettleBell.  What was so funny is that I woke up so sore Thursday morning from that 20 minutes of KettleBell.  I loved it, but OUCH!  LOL!  I went to lunch with 2 girlfriends after the gym and when I went to stand up afterwards woooowwww!  My thighs and ass were like… I give, I give!  hahaha… I was laughing at myself so hard.  I am for sure going to do that KettleBell again this week once, or twice.

In My Skin – Day 62

Weight:  186

Size:  14

Exercise:  KettleBell 20 minute workout.

While I was at Barnes and Noble yesterday with my Husband and 2 of my Boys to buy some new books I came across the Gaiam Exercise Area/Shelf.  I grabbed myself at start-up kit for the KettleBell, with information and a DVD.  One of the teachers at my Boys’ school kept posting about her wonderful workouts on Facebook.  She even was telling me about the inches that she was loosing all over her body and in a very short time.  I think that she is working out only 2 or 3 time a week too, which is cool.  So, I inquired and she invited me along, but I have never been able to make it. 6:00 in the evening is just not a good time for me with a house full, dinner and bed time coming up.  Anyway, so I bought this thing.  It is 4 lbs.  I watched the instruction video and then did the first work out on the DVD.  First off I have to tell you, I can’t stand any kind of aerobics.  At first she started with the marching, stepping side to side and I was happy when all of that was over and we were getting down to business.  WOW!  20 minutes of what seemed like a pretty simple workout had me in a sweat.  Very cool!  These workouts are designed to not only work the areas that you are focusing on, but your whole body. It makes your muscles longer and leaner.  I figure I can do this at home and in between my walking and yoga, just to throw a full body work out in there.

If you are wondering what exactly a kettlebell is? It resembles a bowling ball or cannonball with a handle on it. Though they originate from Russia, they were a part of the nostalgic days of Sandow, Klein, and other great strongmen, not only in Russia, but in the rest of Europe and even in the United States.

Anyway, with my busy day I am happy that I fit in a workout.  🙂

p.s.  Oh yeah… and I lost 3 pounds this week.  Let’s see if it keeps coming off.  That root canal on got on Monday has me pretty sore, so the food intake has been pretty limited. Ouch!
